Imaging the Earth: what a Telecommunication Engineer has to do with seismic data

 

Abstract:
Images of the subsurface structure provided by seismic data are a vital guide in the search for hydrocarbons. Such importance justifies the long journey it takes to go from seismic data acquisition to seismic data imaging, where a lot of different technologies are involved as well as different skills. In particular those of a Telecommunication Engineer, especially if among other disciplines he/she has a strong background in digital signal processing.
This talk will provide an overview of seismic data processing and imaging applied in the Oil and Gas industry as seen from the perspective of a Telecommunication Engineer.

 

Nicola Bienati: M.Sc. in Telecommunication Engineering at Politecnico di Milano in 1995; Ph. D. in Telecommunication Engineering at Politecnico di Milano in 2001. With Eni since 2002. Currently senior R&D project leader at Eni. Main areas of interest: seismic imaging, seismic data processing, High Performance Computing.
