Abstract
We will introduce the basic concepts in silicon-integrated harmonic oscillators, from the most popular parallel-resonance topologies to emerging series-resonance architectures. Some recent results obtained by the presenter and his co-workers will be discussed, with particular focus on critical design issues. We will conclude by summarizing ideas and performance of a few notable state-of-theart designs.

Bio
Pietro “Piero” Andreani received the M.S.E.E. degree from the University of Pisa, Italy, in 1988, and the Ph.D. degree from Lund University, Lund, Sweden, in 1999. Between 2001 and 2007, he was Chair Professor at the Technical University of Denmark, Kgs. Lyngby, Denmark. He was also a part-time IC designer with Ericsson Modems, Lund, Sweden, between 2005 and 2014. Since 2007, he has been an Associate Professor with the Dept. of Electrical and Information Technology, Lund University. Prof. Andreani was a TPC member of ISSCC (2007–2012), of ESSCIRC (2006-2022; Chair of the Frequency Generation Subcommittee, 2013-2022; TPC Chair in 2014), and of RFIC (2016-2022); an Associate Editor of the IEEE Journal of Solid-state Circuits (2016-2022); and a Distinguished Lecturer of the IEEE Solid-State Circuits Society (SSCS, 2017-2019). He was elevated to IEEE Fellow by the SSCS in 2018, for his contributions to CMOS integrated voltage-controlled oscillators.
