Abstract
The design of a surface combatant vessel is a complex task, involving many different specialists, coordinated by a naval architect. One of the most important global performances of a combatant vessels is survivability, composed of susceptibility, vulnerability and recoverability. The susceptibility is determined by the ship signatures, and the radar signature is considered the most important signature above the surface, as the radar seeker of antiship missiles is an important threat and the radar is the primary sensor for ship detection and identification.
Therefore, the radar signature evaluation of a surface combatant and the measures to control it play an important role in the ship design and, as a ship designer shall have some notions about radar signature, a radar signature specialist shall have some notion on the ship design process.
