Abstract
The field of Earth observation (EO) is growing at a fast pace and the interest in this area has supported its technical advancement in recent years. In particular, the continuous improvement in the resolution of EO instrumentation has increased the amount of collected data up to several Terabytes per day, thus posing new challenges for their acquisition, handling, and transmission. In addition, low volume production and adaptability to emerging standards make field programmable gate array (FPGA) devices the preferred choice in such applications. IngeniArs S.r.l. is specialized in developing and delivering cutting-edge solutions in this dynamic domain. Drawing on this wealth of expertise, the talk delves into the essentials of digital design with FPGA devices, exploring design practices tailored for signal processing and satellite communication systems.

Bio
Emanuele Pagani received the M.Sc. degree (cum laude) in Electronic Engineering from the University of Pisa, Italy, in 2022 and is currently pursuing a Ph.D. in Information Engineering. Since February 2022, he has worked as a hardware and DSP engineer for IngeniArs S.r.l. (Pisa, Italy). His work and research interests focus on the design of FPGA-based systems for space applications, signal processing, and satellite communications. He is currently part of the design team for a high-rate CCSDS 131.2-B receiver.
